Q: Unknown stains? HELP! Can anyone tell me what in the world continues to put unknown stains on dark clothing, after washing and drying. To help weed out possibilities, here is what I do know.

They have continued in two different houses. (Not from water.) They continue to appear even with a new washer. (Therefore not oil from washer) The spots aren't there, not noticeable anyway, prior to washing. They only appear after washing and drying. (New dryer too.) I don't use softener sheets. I do use liquid softener, but it's not the softener. The spots only appear on the front of either tops or pants, never on the back and not on all the dark clothes in the load. (I separate my clothes in to blues, blacks, reds, etc.) When they appear I spray Shout on them - rewash- and they're gone? I have used various detergents, Tide, Arm & Hammer, etc.

It drives me nuts to do laundry, pull it out of the dryer and find new spots on it. I then I have to pre-spot and rewash the garment(s). Am I the only one that this happens to? Please help with any ideas that you may have. Kay "Kay A. Schmidt" Reply 03 Dec 2002 (Ref:0841)

Q: Cloudy Mirror I need to find out how to redo a mirror that has got cloudy. It is not on the outside. I heard once that a mirror could be fixed, I have fixed scratches with a black marker, but it will not help the cloudy mirror I have and I love the old thing. I hate to buy a new mirror. Q: Odors I'm in need of a helpful tip that I could not locate on your site. The former owner of my home left fish in the freezer, then turned the electricity off to the house. Now, my new house smells like stale fish. Someone suggested mixing Clorox and vinegar in glass containers and leaving them around the house overnight. I'm always leery of combining ingredients if I'm unsure of exact measurements and possible outcomes. Do you have a suggestion to get rid of this lingering smell? Thanks! -- "Amie Sides" Reply 14 Nov 2002 (Ref:0843)

Q: Garden slugs I had a plague of slugs in my garden. Like many of us, I am averse to the chemical poisons, so tried the beer trap that is so universally suggested. The results were memorably nauseating and I never have tried it again. I don't need to. I bought a bag of diatomaceous earth and scattered it as directed. After a very few applications, NO MORE SLUGS! After a slug-free year, they're slowly oozing back again, so I'll reapply in the spring. It's easy, inexpensive, non-toxic to birds and insects, and highly effective.--- Merri Beth Nord Reply 16 Nov 2002 (Ref:0844)

Q: Wet Book-Pages stuck together.  Recently our basement flooded submerging all of the contents, including three of my dads 40 year old college yearbooks, under a foot of water.  While the pages were still wet I spent about 4 hours pulling them apart as much as I could but in the end I was forced to let them dry because I couldn't sit there for two days straight.  Now I am unable to pry the dried pages apart.  Does anyone know of a way to get these pages apart and possibly save the yearbooks.  I hate to return them to him damaged and unreadable!  :-( -- Lynn Gonzales Reply 30 Nov 2002 (Ref:0847)
