Forests
A green jewel, the most precious of things. Let's preserve and nourish
them for our children. Treat them as though our lives depend on them
(they do, actually).
A proper forest is a functioning ecosystem that operates to improve the
planet. A a part of its function it can undo some of the harm being
done by unthinking humans. A forest does not just have biodiversity it
is much more than a jumble on plant, animal and other lifeforms, The
components fit together as well as a good jigsaw. The Jigsaw Analogy is
a good one for many of the lifeforms are adapted over time to obtaining
food, shelter from specific species found only in the ancient forest.
Simply throwing together a multitide of trees and random plants and
animals will result in a woodlannd of sorts but compared with an
undisturbed forest ecosystem it will be like a jumble of jigsaw
pieces each from a different puzzle.
Protecting a forest is difficult, An unprotected forest is a goldmine
to the unscrupulous; timber, meat from its animal members, it can
be cleared and used as agricultural land it can even be converted into
a tree plantation. Every class of human produces people who will
exploit a forest, including many who will do so unwittingly.
If left to itself a forest is a carbon sink.
